Morning Star H Rider Henry Rider 18561925 Haggard Books

A novel set in ancient Egypt of the Pharaohs, date unspecified. It is a story of royalty and the succession of the ruler of Egypt. It is the love story of a young woman, Tua, who is the only child and heir of the Pharaoh. He, Rames is the son of a king of a kingdom to the south of Egypt, who is now in Egypt, and is raised and trained for the army. They spend some time together as children, and he saves her life from a crocodile, while losing he little finger of his right hand to the croc. They get separated, and she becomes Pharoeh upon the death of her father.

The book includes wizards and magic by different characters. Lots of interesting twists and turns involving a Ka for Tua, which is a duplicate for her person granted by the gods which can be called up. It is called up and rules in her place for two years when Tua is being pressured to marry her uncle who is 40 years older than her.

It starts out slow, but picks up. The ties to ancient Egypt could be much better done.

If you like adventure stories with a love component set in Egypt of thousands of years ago, this could be of interest.

Morning Star H Rider Henry Rider 18561925 Haggard Books Reviews

I love Haggard! Good plot, good character development, and just enough detail. Yes, you may know how the story will end, but you keep reading for the twists and turns of circumstances of which Haggard is a master.
This is the first story I have read by H. R. Haggard. It will certainty not be the last. Although this story comes from an earlier century the style is not stuffy or dry as you might suppose, but rather nice and easy to follow.
OK, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical when I saw this "free" book written in the 1800s. I wouldn't exactly characterize myself as a learned reader of literary classics. I had just received my and figured, what have I got to loose?

I was absolutely pulled in by this story and had problems putting it down. It's a captivating mystical love story about an Egyptian princess. This was the first Haggard book that I've ever read and I will definitely download his more famous literary works to read in the future.
I wish I could explain why I loved this book so much. Strange time, strange characters, strange use of the English language - yet I could not wait to pick up from where I left off. I've read other Haggard books and had the same experience. Something about his style and time. I read a lot of books of various variety's, from bio's to science fiction to Clancy and Child. And I can almost always tell you why I liked or did not like the book. Here I just cannot. Like they say too Mikie in the commercials, try it, you'll like it.
I've never read a book from H.R.Haggard, not even the famous Mines of King Solomon, and was pleasantly surprised by less known work by this British author. It is very well written and he manages to caught your attention in the book, even being the story naive and predictable.
The story passes in old Egypt and tells the saga of the Morning Star, an Egyptian princess. Magic, romance and intrigue in the royal court of ancient Egypt.
I looked forward to receiving this classic (one of Haggard's better efforts), and it arrived on time, and with
good packaging. The book says (on the cover) that it's the affordable, high quality edition. Affordable, yes.
High quality...NO. The font is FAINT, and very small. This will NOT be a pleasurable Read. My morning
newspaper has far more readable font than this. I CANNOT read ; not with my eyesight problems.

I bought this in paperback (the Filiquarian edition) because it has a
wonderful dedication letter to Wallis Budge.

Dang. I can't READ it. But this experience ends on a high note. Bless
their hearts, is granting me a refund, and says I don't have to
slog the book back to the Post Office. THANK YOU, ! (2 stars for
the font - 5 stars for ).

Filiquarian Publishing what the H is WRONG with you?

PS Am reading it now. Actually, this is a lovely book (the words can
sing in your head like poetry). But it will take me WEEKS to read it.
Advise readers to get it in kindle or hardback.
I had never read any of Haggard's work and I was expecting slow, nineteenth century, convoluted prose.
I was greatly surprised to see the straightforward writing, and the incredibly evocative picture Morning Star paints of ancient Egypt.
This is a love story, but not a sloppy, gushy one. The narrative is interesting from start to finish. So far Morning Star has stood the test of time, and I think it will for a number of centuries -- as long as there are people interested in Egypt, or people who like historical novels, or people who simply enjoy good, evocative writing.
It definitely deserves 5 stars, a rating I haven't given very often if at all in these reviews.
Read it. You won't be disappointed.Morning Star
